Energy focus of Bulgaria visit
A “wonderful example” for the other Balkan countries was Prime Minister George Papandreou’s description of bilateral relations, during a speech yesterday at the first joint session of the Greece-Bulgaria High-Level Cooperation Council held in Sofia and attended by Bulgarian Prime Minister Boiko Borissov. Referring to the Burgas-Alexandroupoli pipeline, he noted that the Greek side’s interest remains unabated. Papandreou said the upgrading of Greece and Bulgaria’s role and presence on Europe’s energy map was of strategic importance, and spoke of the future implementation of the two other major energy plans of joint interest to both countries.
Within the framework of a meeting between ministers of the two governments, Greece and Bulgaria signed a series of bilateral agreements dealing with various pending issues and declaring the two sides’ intention to further develop bilateral ties. Papandreou underlined the importance of the agreements signed by the two sides yesterday, expressing conviction that this effort was backed by the people of both countries.
