Concert of the ERT National Symphony Orchestra at the Cairo Opera House
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Mikis Theodorakis’ birth, the ERT National Symphony Orchestra traveled to Egypt and, in collaboration with the A Cappella Choir of the Cairo Opera House, presented the monumental work «Zorbas» on Tuesday, 8 April 2025. The performance took place in the opera’s grand hall, packed with spectators, a venue that has hosted orchestras and artists of international renown.
This brilliant concert was organized in cooperation between ERT, the Embassy of Greece in Egypt, the Egyptian Ministry of Culture / Directorate of International Cultural Relations, and the Cairo Opera House, as part of the embassy’s celebrations for Greece’s Independence Day (25 March).
Under the baton of Michalis Economou, conductor of the ERT National Symphony Orchestra, and featuring mezzo-soprano Nefeli Kotseli as soloist, the orchestra connected with the Greek community of Cairo as well as the Egyptian public, receiving enthusiastic applause for their rendition of the great composer’s work.
